Sellersburg to Update Storm Water Ordinance

The Town Council will be introducing an updated Storm Water Ordinance at the upcoming Council Meeting.

This new ordinance will include updated technical standards for residents and developers to follow. Once in place, these updates will begin to have immediate and long term impacts on the local watersheds by requiring more comprehensive storm water control plans for new developments.

The Town’s version of this new storm water controls is similar to a version Jeffersonville currently considering and Clark County has expressed interest in.

“Creeks and ditches don’t know where a municipal boarder is…” said Town Manager Charlie Smith. “This new storm water control ordinance is the first step in making real improvements in Sellersburg as well as throughout the shared watersheds within the county. I want to thank Clark County and the City of Jeffersonville for coming together to consider shared standards that will benefit residents across our communities…”

PUBLIC WORKSHOPS: Wastewater & Water Rates

The Town Council of Sellersburg is hosting two public workshops to discuss the results of the recently completed rate studies for the water and wastewater utilities. Because the utilities are funded solely by user rates and not taxes, the rates need to be adjusted to be able make long needed repairs.

The workshops will be held at Town Hall on:

  • Wednesday January 20th from 6pm-7pm
  • Monday January 25th from 5pm-6pm

CDC Covid-19 Protocols will be in effect with masks and social distancing strictly enforced.

At this meeting, the Council and JTL Engineering will be reviewing why the work needs to be completed, what is being required by the state, timing, and different rate options to be able to fund the necessary repairs/improvements.

Public comment is welcome at these meetings. The Council will begin deliberation and consideration of rates at the January 25th Town Council Meeting.

New Sellersburg Unified Development Ordinance (UDO) Approved by Plan Commission

At a special meeting of the Sellersburg Plan Commission on December 28th, the new Unified Development Ordinance (UDO) received an unanimous favorable recommendation to the Town Council.

The Town Council will hear the first reading of this ordinance at its January 11, 2021 meeting.

Waste Water and Water Rate Studies

The Town of Sellersburg has long experienced degrading water and wastewater infrastructure. After completing long-range masterplans for repairs, the Town Council commissioned rate studies to determine if and how the utilities could pay for much-needed repairs.

The rate study results were recently reviewed at a Town Council Meeting. Moving forward, the Town Council will be hosting a series of workshops through the month of January in 2021. The goal is to discuss and educate rate payers about the immediate and long-term issues the water and waste water utilities are facing.

Dates of these workshops will be posted on this website, the Town Facebook, posted at Town Hall and issued in a press release to the local newspapers

The last rate change related to sewers was a rate decrease in 2007.

The last rate change related to water was a rate increase in 2013.
