Sellersburg Hosts Groundbreaking Ceremony for Camp Run Pkwy Road Construction Project
$4 million infrastructure project serves Sellersburg’s Town Center development district
Town of Sellersburg officials will gather at 2 p.m. Jan. 24 near 9000 Camp Run Parkway to celebrate the commencement of construction for the extension of Camp Run Parkway from County Road 311 to State Highway 60.
“The Camp Run Parkway extension is an important investment in public infrastructure by the Town and Redevelopment Commission,” said Sellersburg Town Manager Charlie Smith. “This project is a step toward realizing the vision for the Town Center concept outlined within the Comprehensive Plan and Zoning Ordinance update from 2020, and will allow our community to compete for opportunities to attract much needed retail and commercial services to accommodate our growth.”
The Town of Sellersburg’s Redevelopment Commission oversaw the design and procurement process in 2021, with Jacobi, Toombs and Lanz Engineers acting as lead designer; GM Development selected as the project developer; and MAC Construction as the developer’s contracted construction partner.
The $4 million project is being financed through First Savings Bank, with the debt supported by the Sellersburg Redevelopment Commission’s Tax Increment Financing (TIF) revenue. This project has been in conceptual development since 2011 to serve the Camp Run redevelopment area. The Redevelopment Commission previously funded construction of a signalized intersection and road stub at County Road 311 and Camp Run Parkway in 2014. To bring this project to fruition, private adjoining landowners donated more than 4 acres of right of way to the Redevelopment Commission.
The Camp Run Parkway project will entail the construction of approximately 2,500 linear feet of roadway, lighting, landscaping and sidewalks, as well as the extension of public utilities to serve and encourage potential private development within the surrounding area. Additionally, to further serve the road extension, the Town is partnering with the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT), which will construct a new signalized intersection, deceleration and turn lanes at the new intersection of State Highway 60 and Camp Run Parkway. INDOT is expected to bid this component in April 2022.
The Town anticipates the project will be completed in 2022.
