JOB TITLE: Water Team Member
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt
DEPARTMENT: Town of Sellersburg Water Department
REPORTS TO: Water Superintendent

I.    POSITION SUMMARY
Sellersburg Water employees are essential in providing clean, safe drinking water to the community. Team Members provide support primarily to the Distribution and Water Treatment Department.

II.    WORK REQUIREMENTS AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Acquire and maintain a valid Commercial Driver’s License Class B (CDL) permit within 6 months from date of hire; acquire and maintain a valid Commercial Driver’s License within 12 months from date of hire.
  • Operate hand tools and power tools such as drills, saws, shovels, etc.
  • Operate heavy equipment such as forklifts, backhoes, excavators
  • Operate Lawn equipment and tools
  • Work within water plant operations such as pumps, valves, changing of 150 lb. chlorine cylinders
  • Meter Reading
  • Ability to operate fire hydrants
  • Basic knowledge of computers
  • Effectively follows both written and verbal instructions/directions
  • Maintains a high level of customer service and professionalism
  • Willingness to work overtime and serve in an 0n-Call capacity and ability to handle after hour calls independently is a requirement.
  • Continuous walking over all terrains (e.g. meter readers can walk up to 8 hours in a day)
  • Able to frequently work offsite in remote locations with limited supervision; may be required to work alone or in team settings

Education/Experience:
High School Diploma or equivalent, valid driver’s license with good driving history, two years of work experience in a construction industry, preferably in a water utility environment.

Additional Preferred Experience:
Work experience in the following areas: Backhoe/Meter Reading/Plumbing/Distribution System Large license or ability to qualify for test/WT3 License or ability to qualify for test/Experience in water treatment or water distribution/Chemical handling/Experience in other utilities.

Language Ability:
Ability to respond to common inquiries and complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the community.

JOB TITLE: Wastewater Team Member
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt
DEPARTMENT: Town of Sellersburg Wastewater Department
REPORTS TO: Wastewater Operator 

The Wastewater Team Member – performs a variety of manual and non-manual tasks, both skilled and unskilled. Tasks include but are not limited to general maintenance, performance of essential functions required for the successful operations/maintenance of the Wastewater treatment plant and collections system.

 II. WORK REQUIREMENTS & ESSENTIAL DUTIES

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.   • Must possess general skills CDL permit which includes tanker endorsement and air brakes, must obtain CDL license within 90 days of hire. This is a requirement of holding the position. Employees shall be responsible for maintaining this license, (maintaining medical certificate and license);
  • Ability to operate/maintain combination sewer cleaning machine, to clear clogs, clean manholes, and clean wet wells;
  • Ability to operate CCTV equipment for the purpose of inspection of sanitary sewer lines and storm drain lines;
  • Serves on call 24/7 as needed. This is a requirement of holding the position;
  • Maintain equipment including cleaning off/out at the end of each shift;
  • Maintains garage and grounds of assigned work area;
  • Performs manual and non-manual tasks related to wastewater plant and collections system; to include lift stations, cleaning and televising sanitary sewer lines, plant maintenance, (including maintenance of pumps, valves, and motors);
  • May be required to operate snowplows and assist with snow removal during winter months.
  • Maintains equipment, tools and town vehicles by cleaning and checking them after use; keeps records relating to repairs, replacements and maintenance activities (per internal controls policy);
  • Performs all duties in conformance with appropriate safety and security standards. Safety violations of a critical nature will result in an immediate disciplinary action;
  • Maintains a high level of customer service and professionalism;
  • Any other duties as related to the successful operations of the Town of Sellersburg Municipal works Departments, could include water, Streets and Sanitation.
